CES Electrical Fire

Update on the Cherokee Elementary School

We had an electrical fire as students were being dismissed this afternoon. Luckily, students had a fire drill earlier in the day and were prepared for the situation! Everyone exited the building unharmed. Our local firemen, policemen, Entergy workers, first responders and school personnel were fabulous! They sprang into action quickly and got the situation under control before it got out of hand. THANK YOU! We got students on buses quickly and notified parents about the situation.

The source of the electrical fire appeared to be where the power line connects to the building on the roof. At this time, the school smells of smoke, and that power source controls the air conditioners for the second and fourth grade wing of the building and the cafeteria. For these reasons, CES students will have a remote day tomorrow. This means students will have a learning activity to complete from home. We know not everyone has a computer and many do not have internet at this time. Do not stress.  More details will come from their teachers in the morning.

All teachers, faculty, and staff still need to report to the building tomorrow. Highland Middle School and Highland High School will have class as usual.

THANK YOU!
